OUR FRIENDS | Lovers By Ruby Jayne

Lovers by Ruby Jayne Photography has joined the Wedding photography space over the past season and is quickly making a name for herself,
with her eye for detail and knack for capturing all the special moments so beautifully on both digital and film. She is quickly becoming one
of our favourite photographers and we can’t wait to see more and more work from her. Read about her journey and work below.

WHERE DID THE DREAM BEGIN FOR LOVERS? WHERE DID IT ALL START?

Lovers kind of happened organically, I had never really set out to shoot weddings. I have been working as a freelance photographer and content creator for the past few years and I had the opportunity  to do some second shooting for a dear friend of mine who runs the beautiful wedding photography brand Sapphire Studios and I really loved working alongside her. I soon realised that weddings encompassed all the things I really love about photography and I felt really excited about the warmth and intimacy of capturing people on their wedding days. I had a friend reach out to me when her wedding photographer pulled out and that sort of started the ball rolling for me with Lovers.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART ABOUT BEING IN THE INDUSTRY?

It's really exciting to see a complete industry dominated by women and female-run businesses. I'm still so new to this industry but the love and support from the women in this space has been so humbling. I love seeing how much creative talent and hard work goes into creating a wedding day for someone.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR STYLE AND HOW YOU LIKE TO CAPTURE THE DAY?

I like to watch the day unfold as much as I can. There are always moments when I will lean into a little bit more direction if the couple are into a slightly more editorial look and feel but for the most part I just watch everything. I like to be able to capture the whole story of the day, from the really big important moments to the tiniest ones most people won't see. I'd say my style is documentary focused with an editorial edge and fashion inspired elements

ANYTHING TRENDING IN THE SPACE OR THINGS YOU ARE JUST LOVING ATM?

For me, it's less about trends but I just love seeing when couples really lean into their personal style and their personalities on their wedding day. I feel like sometimes it's easy to resign into a particular look or feel with weddings but it's always such a joy to see elements of the personalities really shine through. Whether its a statement shoe, or a unique colour palette or just doing little ceremonies and traditions that are unique to the couple. It's always so exciting being able to capture those moments and really see the personality shine through.

I guess you could say it's a trend but it is really exciting to see more and more couples leaning into film and choosing photographers who shoot film. For me this is a medium I have always loved and explored for the entirety of my creative journey. I think shooting film on a wedding day just adds such a lovely, layered warmth and intimacy to the imagery. For me, there's countless ephemeral moments during a wedding day but theres something so physical to capturing those on film. It might not be for everyone, but my favourite shots always come from my film rolls.
