WHERE DID THE DREAM BEGIN FOR NO BIGGIE?
“It’s easy looking back now and seeing how No Biggie got it’s start - but at the time we had no idea what it was leading too. Jesse (co-owner and creator of No Biggie) had just come back from working and travelling in France and Italy for 18 months. Our dream was to open a small restaurant - like the many we had loved on our travels. The restaurant would be centered around sourcing food locally, keeping it super simple, but extremely tasty. We searched for a location, but we couldn’t find anything that was going to work for us. During this time a number of our friends were getting married and asked us to help them with the food. We did grazing tables and full meals for over 140 guests - whilst attending the wedding! It was amazing - we loved it. And from there it just kind of snowballed. The following Summer we had 20 weddings booked in! Looking back it was a serious blessing that we didn’t find a space for our little restaurant - although running a catering business is crazy busy over the Summer - we get some good down time during winter and have time to do what we love most - travelling to eat.”
“There are so many goals – it’s such an exciting time at No Biggie. We seriously have the best clients – they get what we’re about and trust us to deliver a delicious experience. We want to continue developing this experience we’re offering to our clients”
WHAT IS IN THE PIPELINE FOR NO BIGGIE? WHAT’S COMING UP FOR YOU GUYS THAT IS EXCITING YOU?
“Do you mean apart from getting organised for the biggest Summer yet for No Biggie?! Haha. We’re just about to have our second annual group tasting, where we invite our couples to come and have lunch with us. This was a huge success last year, so we’re very excited about meeting everyone and having them taste our food.
We’re also bringing on our first full time employee for the Summer. She’ll be Jesse’s apprentice and my right hand gal – we can’t wait to welcome her on board.”
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE WEDDING INDUSTRY?
”We have forged so many great relationships with other vendors in the wedding industry. Although we are relatively new to the scene, everyone has been so generous with their time by sharing their experiences and knowledge. Recently we’ve been pushing each other to get creative, have fun and do different shit, it’s exciting. Another amazing thing about being in the wedding industry is sharing great local produce with our clients and their loved ones. We go out of our way to support small, local artisans who are doing delicious things all over the Bay of Plenty. This is what gets us seriously excited - bringing the best produce to the table.”
